Remembering Michael J. Hoffman
-With Love From the Marr Agency Family-
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Michael J. Hoffman, the beloved Broker/Owner of the Marr Agency. Michael began his real estate career at the Marr Agency in 1969 guided by the values instilled by his mentors David and Jo Marr. He accomplished his ultimate dream to purchase the business with his wonderful wife, Denise, in 1997.
Michael was so incredibly proud to maintain and build on the wonderful reputation of the agency he learned the ropes in. Michael’s most important business partner was Denise, who he would often refer to as “mission control” of the wonderful life they built together. Nothing made Michael more proud than to see his office team learn, grow, and thrive. His office family’s hard work and loyalty meant the world to him and gave him great satisfaction he could not put into words. David and Jo Marr remained trusted advisors to Michael until their last days, as Michael was to his office family.
For nearly three decades, Michael led the Marr Agency with heart and humility. His dedication, humor, and steady presence made this office more than a workplace—it became a family. Across his years of service, Michael served as a trusted advisor to multiple generations of families to help them create Jersey Shore memories. Few things made him happier than helping this dream be realized. Michael cared so deeply about integrity that his most protected asset was his reputation, which is something we will strive to emulate.
In addition to the Marr Agency, Michael served the Ocean City Real Estate community in many roles, including as a two-time president and leader of several committees of the Board of Realtors. Michael was honored as Realtor Emeritus by the National Association of Realtors and was two-time Ocean City Realtor of the Year. Michael had many cherished colleagues from across the entire Ocean City Real Estate community, and took great pride in supporting and mentoring other real estate professionals, especially his son Stephen.
Michael was such a kind gentleman- truly one of the best men we have all had the privilege to know. He loved life, this office, and his family & friends deeply. He cared for so many people, always taking time to listen, to help, and to make others feel valued and welcomed. We will miss him beyond words, but his spirit will live on in every conversation, every handshake, and every home that the Marr Agency had the privilege to help sell or rent.
Please keep Michael’s family, office family, and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time. There is no better feeling than to hear a happy memory of our beloved Michael. We invite you to share your stories the next time you pass by our office, it will be sure to bring a smile to our face. We will honor Michael by building on the wonderful legacy he leaves behind.
The Hoffman family always found it so interesting that Michael would say he had to go to the office, not to “work.” We feel that this distinction was not by accident– coming to the Marr Agency never felt like a job to him. Whenever Michael got antsy to get going to the next thing, he had a famous line that stuck with all who knew and loved him. To quote our favorite guy, “I have to go now.”
