While you’re here, don’t miss the annual Ocean City Flower Show taking place June 2nd – June 4th, now in its 45th year.  This year’s theme is “Sports in Bloom.”  Find inspiration for your garden while viewing the beautiful commercial and amateur displays. The event is staged by the Garden Club of Ocean City. Hours are 2 – 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace & Boardwalk. Countdown to Memorial Day Weekend

The wait is almost over. Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of another summer season – and it’s only a few days away!

On Friday, May 26, Celebrate with the annual Unlocking of the Ocean ceremony where city officials will turn the key, taking place at Moorlyn Terrace St. Beach at 12 noon.

Immediately following will be the Business Persons Plunge where all are welcome to dress in business attire and march into the unlocked ocean to the tune “Pomp and Circumstance.” For more information call 609-399-6111. 

The Memorial Beach Challenge takes place Saturday, May 27, at 8 am.  Register for the 2.5 mile race on the beach with obstacles. Proceeds from the event benefit The 31Heroes Project, an organization that specializes in creating programs, financial support systems and future opportunities for service members, veterans and their families. On-site registration takes place at the Ocean City Music Pier, 825 Boardwalk & Moorlyn Terrace, on Friday, May 26th from 2:00pm-10:00pm and Saturday, May 27th from 6:00am-7:30am. Outside the Ocean City Music Pier at 6pm on Saturday, May 27, The Bucks County Singers of Newtown, Pa. will perform a free concert. The mixed-voice choral group of men and women will present a program of eclectic choral offerings, including well-known standards, pop, show tunes, and patriotic pieces, many related to their spring concert theme “What a Wonderful World!” For more information, call 215-741-1283.

OCNJ 2017 Triathlon/Duathlon

Are you ready to race? The OCNJ Triathlon/Duathlon is taking place this Sunday, May 21st.

There are still spots available, and the registration deadline has been extended to May 18th.

The event kicks off with a ¼ mile pool swim at the Aquatic and Fitness Center on 17th and Simpson Ave. Followed by a 2 mile run/16 mile bike/2 mile run.

Kids ages 8-13 can also join in on the fun.  The kids’ course is half the distance of the adult course (1/8 mile swim, 1 mile run/8 mile bike/ 1 mile run).

The pool swim is from 6:00am – 8:00am.  The Duathlon and Run/Bike/Run portion starts at 9:00am.

Race fees are $55 for the Triathlon, $50 for the Duathlon, $25 for kids, or $120 for a family of 4.

Don’t forget your helmets – they are required!

Ocean City will feel the magic as Jon Dorenbos takes the stage at the Ocean City Music Pier on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 pm.  An all American football long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dorenbos starred in and placed third in the eleventh season of NBC’s America’s Got Talent.  Dorenbos started learning magic at the age of twelve after a family tragedy tore his family apart. He is now considered a “master magician,” earning the respect of top magicians everywhere.

Stand-up comedian Peter Sasso will be the opening act.  With his combination of comedy, juggling and audience participation, he always leaves his audiences wanting more!

While tickets sold out within a week of going on sale on Feb. 1, Dorenbos will be in attendance for the 43rd annual Martin Z. Mollusk Day, as Ocean City’s famous hermit crab looks for his shadow to predict an early summer.  This event is taking place earlier in the day on May 13th, at 11 am, at Moorlyn Terrace Beach, 9th Street at Atlantic Ave.

The unofficial start to summer is only a few short weeks away. Now is a great time to break out the cleaning supplies and the toolkit to make sure your rental property is in top-notch condition for your tenants.

This checklist serves as a good starting guide:


ü  Replace batteries in remotes, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors

ü  Dust all furniture, décor, ceiling fans, etc.

ü  Clean windows

ü  Add a fresh coat of paint to walls, and repair and patch as necessary

ü  Steam clean mattresses and carpeting

ü  Clean bedspreads, pillows, blankets and sheets

ü  Clean fabric window treatments

ü  Clean showers, tubs, sinks, toilets, tile, grout and renew caulking

ü  Clean dishes, glasses, flatware, utensils, pots and pans, and replace any broken, missing or worn items

ü  Deep clean the oven and stove tops

ü  Clean out the fridge, freezer, and cabinets

ü  Test out appliances

ü  Check electrical outlets to make sure they are all working

ü  Check ceiling fans and lights to make sure they are working, and replace bulbs as needed

ü  Clean out dryer vents and remove any mold/mildew from laundry area

ü  Replace air filters


ü  Trim shrubs/trees, pull weeds, remove debris, add mulch to flower beds, plant some new flowers/plants

ü  Pressure wash walls, decks, porches, patios, walkways; check for any cracking and make repairs

ü  Clean outside of the windows to remove dirt and grime, as well as window screens

ü  Check for any cracked or missing roof shingles

ü  Test outdoor hose faucets, and hook up hoses

ü  Paint stairs, railing, fences and make any necessary repairs

ü  Check outdoor light fixtures

ü  Clean out gutters and check for cracks or leaking

ü  Clean/repair awnings

ü  Clean porch and deck furniture

ü  Clean out garage/shed

ü  Clean BBQ/grill

Taking care of these items now will help make for happy renters all summer long.
